Bear Environmental Consulting Specializes in a wide range of environmental assessments and services, including Gopher tortoise surveys, gopher tortoise permitting and relocation, wetland delineations, invasive species assessments, habitat management plans, and more. Meet Scott Matthewman: A Steward of Florida's Natural Heritage
Leading our team is Chief Environmental Scientist Scott Matthewman. Born and raised in Florida, Scott’s connection to its landscapes runs deep. His childhood on the edge of the Everglades instilled a love for its woods and waters, driving his dedication to protecting Florida’s unique natural heritage and diverse ecosystems.
Scott’s journey led him to a degree in Biology from the University of Central Florida. During this time, he honed his skills with hands-on experience, including interning and volunteering at the Back to Nature Wildlife Refuge. His passion and expertise grew as he managed natural lands for the State of Florida, holding multiple roles within agencies like the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection.
With over a decade of experience, Scott has actively contributed to the conservation of Florida’s lands. His work spans a spectrum of activities, from invasive species removal and prescribed burns to species inventories and imperiled species monitoring. Scott’s qualifications include being an Authorized Gopher Tortoise Agent (#GTA-22-00040B), a Certified Prescribed Burn Manager (CPBM), and a trained USACE / State of Florida wetland delineator.
